AM Quality Trends Report – April 2022 Newsletter

Sigma Labs and AMFG – Working Together to Optimize and Standardize Additive Manufacturing Workflow

We were happy to announce an agreement with AMFG, a leading provider of manufacturing execution systems (MES) software for additive manufacturing (AM), to expand the footprint of both companies’ solutions and provide the marketplace with an optimized AM solution that increases quality and efficiency while decreasing the costs of serial production. The combination of the MES and in situ monitoring systems will allow AMFG and Sigma Labs users and OEM companies to:

  • Automate full production workflow, including key visibility into production monitoring, with full traceability from powder to part.
  • Move towards automated part and process qualification.
  • View data in real-time, with ability to dive deep into analytics feed.
  • Capture data to support simulation, material properties prediction and final pedigree, and key quality assurance checks to decrease post inspection needs.
  • Provide data connectivity and integrity throughout the manufacturing process agnostic of equipment environment.

Our next major event is the RAPID + TCT Conference to be held May 17-19 at the TCF Center in Detroit, MI.  As a sponsor, Sigma Labs will showcase its PrintRite3D solution and how it contributes to machine, process and part health. We’ll also be demonstrating several new features and details about partner relationships that have large benefits to customers and the industry. If you are at the conference, please come visit us at booth 2125.

Achieving Closed-Loop Additive Manufacturing Quality Control

Last month, Jacob Brunsberg from Sigma Labs and Sven Cornelissen, senior research engineer at Materialise, presented an online event, where they shared the details of a technology breakthrough that allows users to identify and correct metal build issues in real-time – leading to added process control, consistency and repeatability – key factors in scaling AM operations for serial production. Listen to the replay to learn how to achieve closed-loop control while staying within qualified metrics – in a platform that combines the Materialise Control Platform (MCP) and Sigma Labs’ PrintRite3D® monitoring and analytics technology.

Reflections on AMUG 2022 and the AM Tech Tour

We attended and exhibited at two great Chicagoland events this month: AMUG 2022 and the DMG MORI Tech Tour. We met lots of customers, partners and AM practitioners. Our CEO, Jacob Brunsberg, along with Sven Hinrichs, AMFG’s Global Head of Technical Consulting, spoke at a session called Connected AM Workflow: Powder-to-Part. And Alex Benham from Sigma, led a session titled Qualification and Certification: Machine, Process, Part. Sigma’s Director of Customer Success Michael Brennen, wrote a summary of both events you can read here.

Jacob Brunsberg Appointed as CEO of Sigma Labs

On April 4, Sigma Labs was pleased to announce the promotion of Jacob Brunsberg to president and CEO. Jacob had been serving as our chief operating officer. Mark Ruport, who has been serving as Sigma’s CEO over the past couple of years, will continue to serve the company as chairman of the board of directors. As Jacob stated in the press release, “I am thrilled to lead Sigma Labs into its next exciting phase as I believe its aggressive shift to software only for OEMs will allow us to continue to scale and accelerate the adoption of AM by setting the standard for In-situ Quality Monitoring and Analytics.”
