Research study: PrintRite3D® applications in medical implant 3D printing
Quality control of laser additive manufactured medical implants is of great interest, especially if nondestructive quality control can be performed on parts before implantation.
In-process quality assurance using melt pool-plasma radiated emissions can identify the presence of thermally generated anomalies when captured during the laser additive process and analyzed using PrintRite3D® visualization and real time melt pool analytics software.
Sigma Labs recently conducted research to test PrintRite3D®’s capability to identify anomalies in medical device 3D printing applications with excellent results.
PrintRite3D® successfully found critical anomalies and recommended corrective actions in the production of acetabular cup implants used in hip replacement surgeries.
